Local black, woman-owned designer brand teams up with Chiefs in historic partnership

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – Days before the Chiefs playoffs the team is already making history with a new fashion collection. The Chiefs x Cherry collection is the first of its kind putting a black, female designer from Kansas City on the national stage.

The collection can be found at the Made in KC store at the Country Club plaza. The face behind the brand Thalia Cherry said this historic partnership shows the magic of what’s possible.

“I want them to feel empowered and that anything is possible,” said Cherry Co. CEO Thalia Cherry.

Cherry describes her brand Cherry as a feeling. It’s a feeling that can be felt beneath the red fabric it comes in. The brand itself was born right in Kansas City and is now a partnership with the face of the Red Kingdom.

“We know this moment was right for us to be able to be in the national scene but really just to really pay homage to what we believe in sports and history and fashion that connectivity,” said Cherry.

According to the Chiefs, this collaboration is the first of its kind for a black, female designer from Kansas City.

“I am so grateful to be historically like the first of many categories because I always know that it’s my responsibility to really reach back and help other people so there will be twos and threes, and fours,” said Cherry.

As a Kansas City native, Cherry said she’s watched the team skyrocket to success and connects with the team’s resilience. She said her own entrepreneurship journey has mirrored the Chiefs’ with many losses and wins along the way.

“Just both make you stronger and so we’ve been able to witness the Kansas City Chiefs really be impeccable in these last years to really strive for excellence which is the design is really created for that and embodies that,” said Cherry.

Cherry said she hopes the history she has made will inspire others.
