Both Royal Caribbean and Carnival Cruise Line are generating lots of reactions regarding their recent bans. Carnival just sparked a negative reaction for banning friendly gambling. Passengers were also indifferent after Royal Caribbean put baby monitors back on the banned list for a second time.
Royal Caribbean added a certain piece of clothing to the list as well. This move was done particularly for the Barbados port, which bans this type of clothing.
Let’s take a closer look at the ruling, and how users online reacted to the change. We’ll also take a look at other bans Royal Caribbean recently implemented.

Wearing Camouflage And/Or Military Apparel Has Been Restricted By Royal Caribbean
Life Well Cruise on YouTube provided an update at the start of the year regarding banned cruise items. The YouTube video confirmed that Royal Caribbean is still the only cruise to ban both camouflage and/or military apparel, particularly in Barbados.
“No cruise lines are not going to restrict what you’re wearing overall on the cruise ship, but there is one type of clothing that is actually illegal in several cruise ports of call. And that is camouflage or anything really military. Now in particular, Royal Caribbean does list not wearing camouflage or anything military,” the video report revealed.
Royal Caribbean does confirm this on its website, also revealing that the clothing is illegal in Barbados, and could result in a fine or even detainment.
The website wrote, “Restricted Clothing: Barbados: Wearing camouflage and/or military apparel is illegal in Barbados. Clothing of this nature will be confiscated, and the wearer may be charged by local authorities.”
At least on Facebook, users don’t seem to be too bothered by the clothing rule.
Facebook Users Don’t Seem To Be Bothered By Royal Caribbean’s Clothing Ban
Over on Facebook, a reminder was issued for passengers to avoid camouflage clothing on Southern cruises. The user wrote, “Just a reminder not to wear any camouflage clothing on Southern cruises. Civilians wearing camouflage in certain countries is illegal.”
One user wrote that passengers are actually reminded of the ruling when heading to certain ports.
“Yep.. when going to these ports, they usually announce this, put it in the daily, and post signs.. also staff usually will try and stop you to inform you if you are wearing it…even if it’s just sunglasses.”
Others wrote:
- “Why would people wear camouflage anyway.”
- “Thanks for letting us know because I’m new to cruising and had no idea.”
- “Very clearly shown in your cruise documents.”

Royal Caribbean Is Also The Only Cruise Line To Ban Non-Surge-Protected Power Bars Or Cubes
Ilana from LifeWellCruised also confirmed that Royal Caribbean is the only cruise to ban non-surge-protected power bars or cubes. “All of the other cruise lines, at least for now, everything is status quo. So, basically, on all other cruise lines, you are allowed to bring non-surge-protected power cubes. You are not allowed to bring surge-protected power cubes or bars,” she revealed.
Royal Caribbean clarified on its website, revealing that USB chargers are permitted.
“Electrical Extension Cords – including power strips/surge protected strips and multi-plug outlets. We do allow consumer type power conversion device USB charger (multi-plug blocks on which the outputs are for USB cables). Note: Devices must be stamped with US/Europe recognized Conformance Marking to demonstrate compliance with Electrical Safety standards.”
