The budget airline Ryanair has taken to social media to tell passengers to avoid wearing one common clothing item when travelling, which has caused a stir among followers
Staying comfortable during a flight can be tricky, especially when you’re confined to a cramped seat for several hours with limited movement. Fortunately, what you choose to wear during the flight could make a substantial difference to your comfort levels whilst in the air.
Whilst aeroplanes remain the quickest method of travelling across the globe, they’re hardly renowned for passenger comfort. Travellers frequently find themselves wedged into cramped and confined seating for extended periods, without enough leg room to stretch out or prevent that familiar numbness setting in. In truth, genuine comfort is typically reserved for those willing to splash out on pricey first-class tickets.
And if you’ve opted for a more wallet-friendly carrier, such as Ryanair, whatever modest comfort you might have expected could be amongst the trade-offs for cheaper fares – think reduced legroom or more compact seating. Because of this, the minimal comfort you have becomes increasingly precious during those hours spent in the air.
But now, the airline in question has turned to social media to advise passengers against wearing a particular clothing item on their journeys, leaving many people rather baffled.
In a clip posted on TikTok, the carrier shared footage of a Ryanair-branded aircraft descending over azure waters before touching down at what looks to be Corfu airport. A recent video from Ryanair has sparked a lively debate among its followers.
The clip, which features the familiar post-flight jingle and the phrase “Thank you for flying Ryanair”, also includes a text overlay stating: “It’s 2026, let’s stop travelling in jeans,” with a polite ‘please’ added in the caption.
This unexpected statement left many viewers puzzled, prompting them to question why jeans should be avoided during travel. One viewer queried: “What is wrong with jeans please explain,” to which the airline cheekily responded: “what’s right with them?”.
Interestingly, several people concurred with Ryanair’s stance, citing the discomfort of wearing jeans during long periods of sitting. One viewer affirmed: “So real. I’ll never get it.”
Another agreed, declaring: “Agreed. It needs to be banned. Comfies only!” while another shared their preference for leggings. A viewer even humorously suggested they would opt for an “Ok I’ll fly in my 18th century historically accurate outfit.”
However, not all were on board with the anti-jeans sentiment. Some defiantly stated they would continue donning jeans on flights.
One such dissenter retorted: “no it’s an hour let me live,” alongside a photo of themselves sporting jeans on a Ryanair flight.
Another individual stated they would continue to wear jeans as they ‘wouldn’t fit’ inside their carry-on bag, and they didn’t want to incur the airline’s notorious additional charge for a checked-in bag.
