If you happen to be looking for some designer bags, gold jewelry or a replica of former First Lady Jackie Kennedy’s pearls, go check out the Treasures and Trinkets fundraiser.

This is the second year the Friends of the York County History Center have put on this function. The proceeds go to support the York County History Museum.

For those who attend the event from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday night on the third floor of the museum, tickets are $10. In addition to viewing the jewelry, scarves, pins and purses, attendees will also get some chocolates and be able to sample five different wines.

Tickets are not needed for Saturday because it is free to view the jewelry. However, there won’t be any chocolate and wine available.

Kathy Levey, who is a co-team leader of this event, said the Friends were looking for a new way to fundraise for the history center when she recalled a similar event happening in her hometown in Michigan. After she brought up the idea, the other Friends were interested in giving it a try.

Last year, they brought in over $4,000 from this fundraiser. Levey said they didn’t get as many shoppers as they might have because there was a prediction for sleet storm to hit York County that weekend.

However, residents were so invested in the idea that they donated jewelry and other items even after the Friends’ cut-off time, leaving the Friends to store the donations for the next event. This year, the Friends announced collecting donations in September and cut it off in January, but the donations are still coming in.

Because the Friends were happy with how the event went last year, they decided to do it again. This year, Levey said, they received thousands of donations, and not all are on display yet.

“We ran out of room,” she said.

Among those donations are items such as an authenticated replica of Kennedy’s pearls designed by Franklin Mint, which will be raffled off along with other special items.

Levey confirmed that those involved with the fundraiser researched and verified the jewelry’s materials, including Kennedy’s pearls. They had the help of a few friends to discern the metals.

The other tables have jewelry broken out by categories such as gold, silver, pearls or for children. Each is tagged and priced, ready for a new owner.

Kathy Tendler , the other co-team leader, said all of the jewelry was cleaned and some was polished before it was put on display. She added that the earrings also have new backings.

Levey’s hope is to double what they raised last year.

The women added that the Friends are always looking for more members and volunteers who would be able to help out with fun projects such as this one.
