Ryanair urges passengers not to wear one type of clothing on flights

Keeping and comfortable during a flight can be more difficult than it sounds, especially when you’re confined to a seat with limited movement for several hours. But wearing the right travel outfit could make a big difference to your comfort levels whilst in the air.

Whilst aeroplanes remain the quickest method of travel around the world, they’re hardly known for passenger comfort. Travellers frequently find themselves squeezed into cramped seating for extended periods with minimal opportunity to stretch their legs or prevent numbness.

Genuine comfort is typically reserved for those willing to pay premium prices for first-class ticket with bigger and more comfortable seats. If you’ve opted for a more budget-friendly airline, such as Ryanair, cheaper fares may give you reduced the amount of legroom available or sitting in a smaller seat. However, the airline has recently taken to social media to urge passengers against wearing a particular clothing item during their flights, leaving many people baffled, reports the Manchester Evening News.

In footage posted to TikTok, the carrier shared a video of an aircraft bearing the Ryanair branding descending over azure waters before touching down at what looks to be Corfu airport.

A celebratory tune is heard in the video, followed by a voice uttering the familiar phrase: “Thank you for flying Ryanair”. This music and statement are a staple of every Ryanair flight.

“It’s 2026, let’s stop travelling in jeans,” read the text on the video, with a ‘please’ added in the caption. However, this declaration left fans confused, as many quickly flocked to the comments section to question why they should avoid wearing jeans when travelling.

“What is wrong with jeans please explain,” one viewer queried. In response, the airline retorted: “what’s right with them?”.

Interestingly, several people agreed with the airline’s argument, agreeing that jeans aren’t the most comfortable clothing item to wear, particularly for long periods of sitting. One viewer responded: “So real. I’ll never get it.”

“Agreed. It needs to be banned. Comfies only!” another person said, while another shared: “always wear leggings.”

One viewer jokingly suggested: “Ok I’ll fly in my 18th century historically accurate outfit.”

However, not everyone was in agreement with Ryanair’s statement, with some insisting they would continue to wear jeans on flights.

“No it’s an hour let me live,” another viewer retorted, showing themselves wearing jeans on a Ryanair flight.

Another individual stated they would keep in wearing jeans as they ‘wouldn’t fit’ inside their hand luggage, and they were unwilling to pay the infamous additional fee charged by the airline for a checked-in bag.
